Greater Roanoke Valley Affiliate Readies for Inaugural Race
Roanoke, VA – January 19, 2010 - Breast cancer survivors, their families and friends will join others on April 10 to show Roanoke and surrounding communities the strength in living the message and mission of Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the areas first Race for the Cure®.
Leading the region’s first Race for the Cure is honorary co-chairs, Nancy H. Agee and Charlotte C. Tyson. Both women strongly support the Komen mission and each started their nursing career as an oncology nurse. Today, both women lead area healthcare facilities as chief operating officers. Nancy Agee is COO at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and Charlotte Tyson is COO for Lewis Gale Medical Center.
As honorary co-chairs, they will lead teams and walkers to help kick-off our first Affiliate Race with inspirational messages of hope, motivation and emotion aimed at early detection and treatment. “Their rallying of our teams will set the stage for an emotional and moving day encouraging women to be active partners in their breast health,” said Wendi Schultz, chair of the Komen Greater Roanoke Race for the Cure.
