How Monies Raised Are Spent Locally

In just three years, our local affiliate has distributed a total of $348,765 to many area non-profit organizations in our 19-county service area to educate and raise awareness about breast cancer, to increase access to breast screenings and exams, and to provide needed follow-up diagnostic testing and treatment. These funds have reached hundreds of individuals in need of these services.

During the first two grant cycles, a total of 532 women received screening mammograms and resulting diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds, and biopsies when needed. Other statistics include: 351 clinical breast exams and referrals for mammograms; 611 individuals who received breast cancer education; and over 4,000 targeted with breast cancer awareness messages during community outreach events.

Because the Roanoke Valley enthusiastically embraced this important cause, the Inaugural Susan G Komen Greater Roanoke Race for the Cure raised over $267,000. The excellent fundraising efforts of participants, sponsors, and supporters assured that many more women (and men) in need will be served in our community.
